UKMTO Says Unnamed Tanker Was Hit by Unknown Projectile in Strait of Hormuz

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration derived from a 2020 archival U.S. Navy photograph of a replenishment oiler underway in the Strait of Hormuz; it does not depict the unnamed tanker reported hit in 2026.

UKMTO's Warning 138-26 said a company security officer reported that an unknown projectile hit an unnamed tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. The impact caused a fire aboard the vessel, but the blaze was extinguished and all crew members were reported safe. The vessel's identity, flag, operator and attacker were not confirmed, while the environmental impact remained unknown. Verified reporting treated this warning as separate from Iran's earlier claim concerning the tanker Trend because UKMTO did not identify this vessel. Maritime authorities said an investigation was underway and advised ships to transit cautiously and report suspicious activity.
