IRGC Says It Struck Togo-Flagged Tanker Trend in Strait of Hormuz

IRGC Navy commander Ali Ozmaei said the force struck the Togo-flagged oil tanker Trend after accusing it of attempting an unauthorized passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC claimed the vessel caught fire and stopped, but it did not disclose the weapon used, cargo, crew status or exact location. UKMTO separately confirmed a security incident 16 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman, and said the crew was safe, no environmental impact had been confirmed and authorities were investigating. UKMTO did not identify the ship or attacker, so the link between its warning and the IRGC claim remains unverified.
