Araghchi Says Iran Awaits Final U.S. Reply via Mediators After Trump Rejects Hormuz Offer

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in New York on Saturday night, on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly, that Tehran had seen President Donald Trump's first reaction to its proposal, but that the mediators had not yet conveyed any U.S. answer. Trump said earlier on Saturday that he rejected Iran's latest proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Araghchi said Iran was waiting for the intermediaries to deliver definitive positions and would decide on that basis. He said any move toward reopening the strait depends on conditions set by Iran's Supreme National Security Council, adding, "we will not back down from them."
