Trump Rejects Iran's Seven-Day Plan to Reopen the Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump said on September 26 that he rejected Iran's latest proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, telling reporters that the deal "would not be acceptable." Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had said a day earlier in New York that Tehran sent Washington a concrete seven-day plan through Qatar, under which the strait could reopen and normal maritime passage resume within seven days if the necessary conditions were met. Araghchi said the conditions were nothing more than those in the June US-Iran memorandum of understanding, which collapsed amid renewed fighting. Trump said Iran wanted to open the strait immediately "because they're losing so badly."
