Nor'easter Reaches Northeast as New York and New Jersey Declare States of Emergency

An early-season nor'easter began lashing the U.S. Northeast on the evening of September 25, bringing rain, strong winds and coastal flooding from New Jersey and New York City to Boston. New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill declared a state of emergency in eight counties, including Atlantic, Cape May, Monmouth and Ocean, effective at 5 p.m., and activated the State Emergency Operations Center. New York Governor Kathy Hochul also declared a state of emergency, while emergency operations centers opened in Boston and Connecticut. Forecasters expected gusts near 60 mph around Boston and the storm to peak on Saturday, affecting more than 40 million people through Sunday.
