Montenegro Detains Russian-Israeli Couple for a Month in Smuggling and Laundering Probe

An investigating judge at Montenegro's Basic Court in Kotor ordered one month's detention for a Russian couple, aged 31 and 42, who also held Israeli passports, on suspicion of smuggling and money laundering, citing a flight risk. Police said border and customs officers stopped the pair on September 23 at Tivat Airport as they tried to board a flight to Tel Aviv with 19 suitcases, seizing 26,210 euros, 1,150 shekels, undeclared IT equipment and medicines. Police added that they were working closely with the National Security Agency and the international intelligence community. Local reports citing unofficial sources said searches in Budva and Bar found about 1 million euros and more IT equipment.
