China Says Xi and Trump Agreed Iran Should Honor Its Pledge Not to Build Nuclear Weapons

China's Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump agreed during Xi's September 23-25 state visit to the United States that Iran should honor its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons, and that no country or institution can be allowed to impose tolls on international waterways. The point was the third of eight deliverables and understandings Beijing listed from the summit. A White House fact sheet said the two leaders agreed that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon. Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Xi supported a U.S.-Iran return to the Islamabad memorandum and an early resumption of talks toward a comprehensive agreement that includes the nuclear issue.
