Pezeshkian Welcomes Xi's Call for U.S. and Iran to Return to Islamabad Memorandum

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Friday night welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping's support for the United States and Iran returning to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. In a post on X, republished by his office, Pezeshkian said Iran also stresses the need to return to the memorandum, implement the agreed commitments and lay the ground for continued serious, result-oriented negotiations. He said Tehran and Beijing share a view on respecting countries' sovereignty, reducing tension and preserving regional stability. Xi raised the memorandum in White House talks with President Donald Trump on Thursday, voicing hope for an eventual comprehensive agreement covering the nuclear issue and other matters.
