Senate Rejects Iran War Powers Resolution 49-50 as Four Republicans Back It

The U.S. Senate rejected H.Con.Res. 89, a House-passed concurrent resolution on Iran war powers, by 49 votes to 50 on September 24. The measure would have directed the president to remove U.S. armed forces from hostilities against Iran unless Congress authorizes them. Republicans Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Rand Paul and Thom Tillis voted in favor, while Democrat John Fetterman voted against. Tillis said 60 days had passed since the administration told Congress in July that military action against Iran had restarted, adding that "it is time to engage Congress." The House adopted the resolution in July by 214 votes to 208.
