Australia Sets 2028 Start for Melbourne Airport Rail Stage 2

The Australian and Victorian governments announced that preparatory work for Melbourne Airport Rail Stage 2 will begin within weeks. The planned 7.4-kilometre line would run from Albion through a new Keilor East station toward the airport precinct, with direct connections to the Metro Tunnel. Major construction is scheduled for 2028–2031, as part of the governments' A$12 billion joint commitment to airport rail. The route includes 1.1 kilometres of elevated track and a crossing of the Maribyrnong River. Stage 3, including an above-ground airport station, remains under consideration.
