The San Diego Padres beat the Chicago Cubs 8–0 at Petco Park to take a 1–0 lead in their best-of-three National League Wild Card Series. Fernando Tatis Jr. homered on the first pitch he faced, Manny Machado added another first-inning homer and an RBI double, and Xander Bogaerts also homered. Michael King allowed one hit over seven scoreless innings, striking out eight after taking a no-hitter into the seventh. Joe Musgrove closed out the ninth in his first major-league appearance since October 2, 2024. The series winner will face Milwaukee in the division series.
