U.S. Military Says October 4 Caribbean Vessel Strike Killed Four

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of an archival January 2013 view of small moored boats beside mangroves in El Guamache Bay on Margarita Island, Venezuela, with a distant shoreline and low sun; Caribbean maritime context, not the October 4 strike, its location or target vessel, rendered in warm ochre and slate-blue pastel strokes.

U.S. Southern Command said Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere carried out a lethal strike on a go-fast vessel in the Caribbean on October 4, killing four people. The command said the vessel was operating along established drug-trafficking routes. It claimed confirmed intelligence showed the boat was actively involved in drug trafficking, but its statement provided no details about that intelligence. SOUTHCOM described those killed as “narco-terrorists,” without identifying them. The announcement did not specify the vessel’s nationality, cargo quantity or exact location within the Caribbean.
