IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir issued an October 7 remembrance order on Monday, acknowledging that the military failed its foremost duty to protect Israeli citizens during the Hamas attack on Simchat Torah in 2023. Addressing soldiers, reservists, commanders and civilian employees, he pledged to investigate and implement lessons to earn public trust. He remembered murdered civilians, fallen soldiers and emergency responders, and expressed solidarity with the wounded and bereaved families. Zamir praised civilians’ and soldiers’ courage and national solidarity. He also promised to identify emerging threats, prevent enemies from strengthening unimpeded and prepare the military for future challenges.
