Needham Honors Leiter Family at Israel’s Washington October 7 Memorial

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration adapted from an archival official portrait of Michael Needham in a dark suit and red tie beside a U.S. flag; contextual portrait, not a depiction of the Washington memorial ceremony.

U.S. deputy national security adviser Michael Needham honored the Leiter family at Israel’s Washington memorial marking three years since the Hamas-led October 7 attack. At the embassy’s Monday ceremony in a synagogue, he dedicated his keynote to Neria Leiter, Ambassador Yechiel Leiter’s son, who remains critically injured after a terror attack two weeks earlier. Needham praised those who choose to protect life and called the Leiter family heroes. Hundreds of diplomats, government representatives and community leaders attended. Gilad Segev’s Project Heroes presented stories of Israelis who saved lives, and the ceremony included a memorial candle, prayers and both countries’ anthems.
