Paris's police prefect announced a ban on a demonstration planned for October 7 at the request of Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez. The prefect said the date marks the third anniversary of Hamas's terrorist attack against Israel and will involve numerous commemorations. He cited a high terrorist threat, antisemitic acts remaining at a historically high level in France, and significant risks of public disorder from holding the protest that day. The announcement said the organizers opposed what they called genocide in Gaza and sought respect for the ceasefire. The prefect said his responsibility was to ensure everyone's safety.
