Josh Frydenberg urged Australian leaders to change course against antisemitism on October 7, saying expressions of comfort on the anniversary were insufficient. In a public statement marking Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, he called for leadership that confronts extremists and pushes hatred out of mainstream society. Frydenberg said Jewish Australians had been targeted at places of worship, sidelined in professional life and harassed on university campuses. Addressing Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, he criticized Australia's political leadership as weak and ineffective and said slogans calling for violence had no place in the country.
