Jewish Groups Say Philadelphia Schools Failed to Address Anti-Israel Activism

Jewish representatives in Philadelphia said the school district failed to adequately address repeated warnings about Workshop School teacher Hannah Gann’s anti-Israel activism. In newly published accounts, Jason Holtzman, director of the Jewish Community Relations Council, described concerns raised with the district; the council said a 2024 teacher teach-in directed educators to materials erasing Israel from maps and portraying Hamas’s October 7 attack as resistance. Jewish representatives said they presented documented parental concerns to the superintendent in March. A district spokesperson declined to discuss possible discipline or earlier communications and said support was available to the school’s staff and students.
