Italian Senate Condemns Neo-Nazi Siege of Jewish Youth in Bulgaria

Party leaders in Italy’s Senate condemned a neo-Nazi attempt to force entry into a Bulgarian hotel hosting about 200 Jewish teenagers, including students from Rome and Milan. During the August 2 incident, men in black skull-emblem shirts shouted “Sieg Heil,” made Nazi salutes and returned after police first dispersed them. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani expressed solidarity with the young Jews and said antisemitism must be fought and eradicated. Rome Jewish community president Victor Fadlun asked Bulgarian authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible.
