Canadian MP Anthony Housefather called for the fire that gutted Nöam, a kosher restaurant in Montreal's Côte-des-Neiges district, to be investigated as a hate crime and said those responsible should be fully prosecuted. Montreal police said the blaze caused extensive damage early Saturday and is being investigated as possible arson after a person was seen leaving the scene. City councillor Mike Cohen also described the incident as a major hate crime. Police reported no injuries and said investigators had not established a link to the restaurant's Jewish identity.
