Trump Says Gas-Price Comparison Behind Los Angeles and San Diego Remarks

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Donald Trump in a dark overcoat addressing U.S. airmen in a hangar at Ramstein Air Base in an archival December 2018 scene; contextual artwork, not a depiction of his October 8, 2026 remarks, rendered in warm ochre and slate-blue pastel strokes.

President Donald Trump said on Thursday that his remarks about Los Angeles and San Diego compared temporarily higher gasoline prices with the bombing of major American cities. He said paying more for gasoline for a short period was a small price for preventing Iran from having a nuclear weapon, presenting that comparison as the point of his earlier remarks. Trump denied asking an enemy to bomb Los Angeles or San Diego and said he loved both California cities.
