U.S. President Donald Trump said on October 8 that the United States would not attack Iran at any time before the November 3 midterm elections. In a Truth Social statement, he described discussions with the Islamic Republic as productive while saying the blockade would remain in full force and effect. Trump paired the commitment on the timing of an attack with his insistence that Iran would not have a nuclear weapon. He also claimed that 22 million barrels passed through the Strait of Hormuz the previous night, with none going to or coming from Iran.
