Britain renamed its Jerusalem consulate “UK Mission, Jerusalem” on Thursday following discussions with Israel, Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband said. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said the consulate ends its operations today, with 20 diplomats, including the consul general, leaving and seven remaining as a task force in the same building. Miliband said the renamed mission remains independent and operational, continuing services and work with Palestinians. Britain temporarily withdrew some staff and families and intends to rebuild its presence over coming months. Miliband said Britain would take no reciprocal action while discussions remain underway and credible.
