Wong Says Pausing Tax Reform Could Be Considered for National-Led Coalition

New Zealand's Opportunity leader Qiulae Wong said a pause in tax reform during the next parliamentary term could be considered in talks over a National-led coalition if her party secured substantial other policy gains. She stressed that this was not a commitment and would need internal party discussion. Wong said Opportunity would approach the party with the largest vote share if it crossed the parliamentary threshold. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has ruled out working with Opportunity, citing its land-tax policy and opposition to new taxes. New Zealand votes on November 7.
