Newcastle Court Grants Bail to Driver Accused of Injuring Knights Fans

Newcastle Local Court granted conditional bail on October 9 to Indika Bambrick Samarasinghe, 18, after six nights in custody. Judge Trevor Khan approved his release despite prosecutors opposing bail. He faces nine charges over an October 3 crash at a roundabout on Newcastle Link Road in Wallsend that injured ten Knights supporters gathering before the NRL grand final. The charges include dangerous and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm. Bail conditions require him to live with his mother in Sydney, report to police daily, surrender his passports and avoid Newcastle except for court; the case remains pending.
