Nigeria's Senate spokesman, Yemi Adaramodu, said he expects state assemblies' responses to the state-police constitutional amendment possibly next week. In an interview published on October 9, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs expressed confidence that enough states would support the proposal. He said the reform would be completed during the current 10th Senate. The amendment requires approval from 24 of Nigeria's 36 state assemblies. The proposal was transmitted on September 16, with October 15 marking the end of the administrative response period.
