India’s Supreme Court Sets Sunday Hearing on Delhi Transit Contempt Plea

India’s Supreme Court has listed a special hearing for October 11 on advocate Shailendra Mani Tripathi’s contempt petition over Delhi’s Metro closures and train cancellations. The petition alleges that blanket restrictions breached the court’s October 9 directions against outright transport prohibitions during protests seeking Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. It seeks contempt proceedings against Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar and DMRC Chairperson D. Thara. Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana are scheduled to hear the matter at 10:30 a.m. Indian time; the allegations have not been adjudicated.
