Trump Says Putin Wants Ukraine Settlement, Accuses Zelensky of Resisting a Deal

President Donald Trump said on October 10 that Vladimir Putin strongly wanted a settlement in Ukraine, while accusing Volodymyr Zelensky of resisting a deal. Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland after returning from Tennessee, Trump said, “President Putin would like to see a settlement strongly.” Asked about Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visiting Moscow and another conversation with Putin, he said Russia wanted a deal. Trump said an earlier settlement would have given Ukraine better terms and also called for a Ukrainian election.
