Pope Leo XIV Says He Will Have Surgery to Remove Lung Nodule

Pope Leo XIV said during the Sunday Angelus in Vatican City on October 11 that recent medical examinations had identified a localized lung nodule at a very early stage. He said doctors had advised removing it and that he had accepted their recommendation. The operation is planned for the coming days at Rome’s Policlinico Gemelli. Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said surgery was scheduled for the first days of next week, followed by approximately one week of postoperative hospitalization. No specific surgery date was announced.
