Rachel Dissipates Over U.S. Southwest as Remnants Bring Heavy Rain

Rachel dissipated over the southwestern United States on October 11, the National Hurricane Center said in its final advisory at 15:00 UTC. Its remnants continued producing heavy rain and gusty winds, with rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches and local amounts up to 5 inches forecast from Southern California into the Great Basin and parts of the Southwest. The agency warned of potentially significant flash and urban flooding, with higher terrain especially exposed to gusty winds. Waves from Rachel and incoming southerly swell also threatened life-threatening surf and rip currents along Southern California and northern Baja California.
