Simon's Category 4 Eyewall Nears Mexico's Coast With 155-Mph Winds

At 09:00 UTC on October 11, Hurricane Simon's eyewall was very near Mexico's west-central coast, with Category 4 sustained winds of 155 mph (250 km/h). Its centre was about 100 km west-southwest of Manzanillo. The National Hurricane Center forecast Simon would pass near or over the coast as a major hurricane, but said whether it would make landfall remained uncertain. It forecast catastrophic winds and life-threatening storm surge along part of the coast. Additional rainfall of 10-20 inches, with isolated totals of 30 inches, was forecast across parts of Michoacán, Colima and Jalisco through Monday, threatening flooding and mudslides.
