Three Mourners Killed at Odinga Farewell Were Far From Clash, Investigation Finds

A forensic investigation published on October 11 found that three men killed at Raila Odinga's farewell at Nairobi's Kasarani Stadium on October 16, 2025 were not involved in a confrontation with police. Analysis of more than 1,500 images and videos placed the victims roughly 60 metres to at least 160 metres away. Investigators identified presidential protection officers among armed personnel, but could not establish which bullets killed the men or exclude other officers firing. Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen defended police conduct as restrained and said oversight findings would guide legal action. An independent police oversight investigation remains ongoing.
