Elizabeth Struhs Inquest Hears Hospital Staff Warned Child Safety Before Her Death

Hospital staff told a Brisbane inquest on Monday that they warned Child Safety about Elizabeth Struhs in 2019 and were surprised she left hospital without a safety plan. Witnesses said her father was willing to administer insulin after her diabetes diagnosis, while her mother said she would not help provide it. Elizabeth died aged eight in January 2022 after insulin was withheld, and her parents and other members of a home-based religious group were convicted of manslaughter in 2025. Coroner Ainslie Kirkegaard is examining whether state authorities could have better protected her, with 30 witnesses expected over two weeks.
