IMF Chief Says AI Investment Boosts Asian Growth as Annual Meetings Open

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said in Bangkok on October 12 that investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure is helping keep global growth around 3% despite an energy supply shock. Speaking as the IMF–World Bank annual meetings opened, she said Asian hardware suppliers, including Thailand, were benefiting. She estimated that AI investment adds 0.5 to 1 percentage point to growth in advanced Asian economies and 0.2 to 0.8 percentage point in emerging Asian economies. The IMF is due to release its updated economic outlook on October 13; the figures she cited were estimates, rather than completed growth results.
