Peru Lawmaker Chipana’s Trial Over Alleged Discrimination Against Autistic Child Revealed

A Sunday-night report disclosed that Peruvian lawmaker Graciela Chipana faces an oral trial over alleged aggravated discrimination against an autistic child in Moquegua. Prosecutors allege that, while teaching at the public San Antonio de Padua school in April 2025, she denied the child classroom entry and required his parents to hire an assistant they could not afford. Prosecutors are seeking a conviction and disqualification from public office. Her lawyers argued that her statements reflected concern for the child’s care rather than discrimination, and Chipana said she would continue attending court summons to defend her innocence.
