Peru's IGP Records Magnitude-4.3 Earthquake Off Cañete Coast

Peru's Geophysical Institute recorded a magnitude-4.3 earthquake at 04:57:21 local time on October 12, with its epicentre 41 kilometres southwest of San Vicente de Cañete, in Lima department. The National Seismological Centre's report placed the earthquake at a depth of 42 kilometres and reported intensity III–IV in San Vicente de Cañete on the Modified Mercalli scale. The institute bases its reports on measurements from sensors in Peru's National Seismic Network. Its report distinguishes magnitude, which measures energy released at the seismic focus, from intensity, which describes effects at the surface.
