Pope Leo XIV to Enter Gemelli Hospital Tuesday Ahead of Lung-Nodule Surgery

Holy See spokesman Matteo Bruni said Monday that Pope Leo XIV is expected to enter Rome’s Policlinico Gemelli in the late morning of October 13 ahead of surgery to remove a localized lung nodule. Bruni said the nodule was found during routine checks and the estimated postoperative hospital stay remains approximately one week. Leo kept his scheduled audiences Monday morning but will miss the afternoon Amoris laetitia meeting in the Paul VI Hall. Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle will replace him at the meeting’s October 14 Mass in St. Peter’s Square. No exact surgery date was announced.
