Iranian Diplomat Says IRGC May Strike First if U.S. Talks Fail

An Iranian diplomat said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is considering a preemptive strike if diplomacy with the United States fails, as mediators pursue a new proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The proposal would resume U.S.-Iran talks, halt regional attacks including those by Tehran-backed Iraqi militias, and trade the strait's full reopening for an end to the U.S. naval blockade and restored Iranian oil exports. The report said no agreement has been reached and mediation continues. It also said Saudi Arabia urged President Donald Trump to halt planned U.S. strikes while Emirati officials advocated escalation, including control of Hormuz.
