Jerusalem Post Editorial Challenges Netanyahu on Draft-Evasion Reversal

The Jerusalem Post editorial board challenged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s reported reversal on the law that froze arrests of Haredi draft evaders, saying a campaign pledge cannot erase his coalition’s July 14 vote. It noted that Netanyahu recently said the law would not return under the next government and that non-studying draft evaders would enlist or face prison. The editorial argued that any new position should be set out in legislation before Election Day, with enlistment targets, a binding timetable and narrowly defined Torah-study exemptions. It also said integration must respect religious life and provide suitable military frameworks.
