El-Sayed Leads Stevens as Michigan Senate Primary Count Continues

Abdul El-Sayed held an early lead over Representative Haley Stevens as Michigan counted votes in its Democratic U.S. Senate primary, with initial results showing 49.9% to 46.5% after 36% of ballots. The contest pits El-Sayed, who calls for ending U.S. military aid to Israel, against Stevens, a strong supporter of the U.S.-Israel relationship. Groups supporting Stevens spent more than $50 million, led by more than $30 million from AIPAC and its affiliates. The nominee will face Republican Mike Rogers in November in a battleground race that could affect control of the Senate.
