Reports on July 1 said the United States is considering reducing its military footprint in Saudi Arabia after Riyadh resisted Project Freedom, the American effort to open the Strait of Hormuz during the Iran war. Saudi bases and airspace were critical, more than 100 U.S. aircraft were already moving, and Washington threatened to delay interceptor deliveries. Earlier reporting described the same Saudi pushback, while also noting Saudi and White House responses.
