NYC Passes School-Protection Law After Anti-Israel Protests

New York City Council passed Int. 0929-2026, requiring the NYPD to publish a transparency report on when security perimeters may be used to protect school entrances from obstruction, intimidation, injury and interference. The official Legistar record says the measure was approved June 30 and is enacted at the mayor's desk, with proposed and final reports due within 45 and 90 days. The narrower bill follows Mayor Zohran Mamdani's April veto of a broader proposal and excludes colleges and universities, even though campus protests are more frequent there. The law is a practical diaspora-security step: Jewish children and families should reach school safely while speech rights stay protected.
