Some of the highest-ranking U.S. military officials underwent polygraph tests during a Pentagon investigation into leaks about weapons stocks, including advanced munitions used in the Iran war. Several dozen people were tested, among them U.S. Central Command personnel and other combatant commanders, an unusually large group for such examinations. Two officials said nobody failed questions concerning media leaks, and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine was not tested. The Pentagon said classified leaks are investigated because protecting sensitive information helps safeguard U.S. forces; the FBI was not involved.
