Trump Orders U.S. Negotiators to Demand Compensation From Iran

President Donald Trump said Monday that Iran's demand for compensation over wartime damage had never appeared in previous talks and ordered U.S. negotiators to press a counterclaim in any future negotiations. He said Tehran should compensate people killed or seriously wounded by Iranian action, including Americans killed by roadside bombs and protesters killed by the regime. Iran has conditioned reopening the Strait of Hormuz on compensation, sanctions relief, the release of frozen assets and the withdrawal of nearby U.S. forces. Trump's instruction adds another dispute to talks already stalled over the waterway and Iran's nuclear program.
