Hochul Warns Holocaust Survivors of Compensation Scam After Fake Claims Site Removed

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the Department of Financial Services issued a consumer notice warning Holocaust survivors and their families about unsolicited letters from an entity calling itself the Jewish Holocaust Claims Center. The notice says the department cannot verify the identity, services or legitimacy of the group, which urged recipients to submit compensation claims. Regulators referred the matter to law enforcement and reported the entity's website to its hosting provider, and the site has since been removed. Acting Superintendent Kaitlin Asrow said survivors and their families should be able to pursue restitution without fear. New York directs claimants to its Holocaust Claims Processing Office, which charges nothing.
