Supreme Court Lets White House Ballroom Construction Continue for Now

Chief Justice John Roberts on August 21 temporarily stayed a federal injunction that would have halted much of the Trump administration's White House ballroom construction, leaving work free to continue while the Supreme Court considers the administration's emergency application. The National Trust for Historic Preservation sued after the East Wing was demolished for the planned 90,000-square-foot project, arguing that construction requires congressional approval. The administration says the roughly $400 million development includes an integrated underground security complex and was about 65% complete when it sought Supreme Court relief.
