Colombia's disaster agency raised the confirmed death toll from the magnitude 7.4 San José del Palmar earthquake to 331, with 240 people still missing and 4,439 injured. Its August 25 update counted 364 rescues and 1,200 people receiving medical care. The agency said 187,851 families and 361,707 people had been affected across 494 municipalities in 16 departments. Tens of thousands of homes were destroyed and many more were damaged, deepening the recovery challenge as national reconstruction and direct-aid programs begin.
