Tinubu Orders Rescue After Niger State Killings and Mass Abductions

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu wearing round glasses, a patterned red cap and white traditional clothing, rendered in warm ochre and slate-blue pastel strokes.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu ordered the armed forces, police, domestic intelligence service and other agencies to coordinate efforts to rescue people abducted during attacks in Niger State. The order followed village raids in Borgu Local Government Area, including an attack on a mosque, with residents and a council chairman estimating that at least 60 people were taken. A presidential adviser's statement said civilians were killed and abducted, while an earlier police account said no lives were lost, leaving the casualty picture unresolved. Tinubu directed service chiefs to provide regular briefings until everyone taken is accounted for.
