Australia to Review New Murujuga Study, May Update Woodside Conditions

Australia’s environment minister Murray Watt said his department will review new monitoring findings at Murujuga and may update conditions on Woodside’s North West Shelf gas approval if needed. The official Year 3 summary found elevated subsurface porosity in local rock and identified historically higher sulfur-dioxide emissions as the most plausible cause. It found no evidence that the affected area is expanding or that present-day pollution is causing measurable accelerated weathering, while cautioning that effects below detection limits cannot be excluded. The Murujuga program has recorded more than 186,000 condition measurements across a landscape containing over one million petroglyphs.
