Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake Strikes Colombia’s Santander Region

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck near Los Santos in Colombia’s Santander department at 11:45 a.m. local time, the Colombian Geological Service said after manual review. The quake originated 149 kilometers deep, seven kilometers from Los Santos, with the service recording 3,490 felt reports and instrumental intensity MMI 3 from data at 59 stations. The agency revised its preliminary magnitude of 5.4 to 5.1. Colombia’s presidency said national authorities and risk-management agencies were checking for possible effects; the retained official sources reported no casualty figure.
