Three Solomon Islands Cabinet Ministers Resign as Wale Faces No-Confidence Vote

Home Affairs Minister Manasseh Maelanga, Justice and Legal Affairs Minister Clezy Rore, and Commerce, Industries, Labour and Immigration Minister Harry Kuma resigned from Prime Minister Matthew Wale’s government. Government House officials told local outlets the letters were received and approved Monday, though reports conflicted over which governor-general acted on them. Maelanga filed a no-confidence notice Saturday, accusing Wale of making nationally important decisions without proper Cabinet consultation or approval. The notice matures September 6, and the motion is expected to take precedence when Parliament resumes September 7. Wale returned to Honiara after cutting short his Pacific Islands Forum trip in Palau.
